Tennessee – Senate Bill 372, effective June 13, 2008, amends Sec. 9-503(a)(4), which deals with individual debtor names, to provide that a financing statement sufficiently provides the name of an individual debtor if it provides the name shown on the individual's state issued driver's license or identification license. This bill was enacted to fix certain problems created by an earlier bill (Public Chapter 648, effective May 1, 2008) which also permitted use of names shown on birth certificates, passports, social security cards and military ID cards. Senate Bill 372 also provides for a 60 day period during which financing statements filed between May 1 and June 13 may be amended to comply with the new law.
